Talking About Miscarriage. Sarah Murphy.
It's estimated that one in five pregnancies ends in a miscarriage. Each statistic represents a personal tragedy and a hurt that other people often find it easier to ignore. There's little definate information about why it happens, and to a doctor a miscarriage can seem a routine medical matter.
Many people feel under a lot of pressure to put on a brave face, but this conspiracy of silence means they dont get support from the many others who have been through it too. TALKING ABOUT MISCARRIAGE aims to help the thousands of people every year who suffer a miscarriage to undersatnd what has happened, and to begin to come to terms with thier loss.
Miscarriage still tends to be an unsopken subject, but the wish to protect expectant mothers from anxiety leaves those who do miscarry unprotected and unprepared. It's important to break down the taboo, so you know you're not alone. |

Small Sparks of Life. Lysanne Sizoo.
Lysanne Sizoo is a young mother living in Sweden. In Small Sparks she describes her journey from marriage to motherhood; a roller coaster ride between deep despair and great joy. Two miscarriages found Lysanne caught in a no-womans land where she felt neither the career woman, nor the mother-to-be.
At first she was determined to solve her own problems untill finally she found and accepted help from a local miscarriage support group. There was joy in meeting other women who were experiecing the same feelings of loss, failure and even hate, and in discovering that her feelings were a normal part of the grieving process. With the realisation that she was not alone came acceptance marking the start of a healing process.
No two women experience miscarriage in the same way, but Small Sparks faces the problem in a stmpathetic way, not without humility and humour. It will help others to find the courage to face their sadness, and to go on and try again, to reach the climatic joy of birth which Lysanne Sizoo so beautifully desribes.. |
